The client of this company was an architect. He was keen in making a space that would inspire him and his staff to work in. The design of the building was unique for its time because the structural elements were expressed in the facade.
The structural columns along the periphery of the building work as vertical shafts of light with louvers at the lower and upper level. This resulted in a naturally lit interior and the louvers at different height provide air circulation which maintains a comfortable temperature.
The light from these columns ensured there was no need for artificial lighting during the entire working day. With the right balance of light and ventilation, the staff and management were happy working in this space.
Phase 2 is a two-storied pre-engineered north light structure which was a first of its kind for Metaltek. The street facing part of the building accommodated an office and lunch room, while the rest of the space was used to expand manufacturing. The design here mimicked the edge columns to show the continuity of the Phase 1 vertical shafts of light.
