Nilaya Retreat is an independent bungalow with a garden and pool; located in a small village south of Alibaug. It is planned with response to the sloping site, a thick forest behind and a wonderful view of the Arabian Sea.

The house is planned as a contemporary open plan home with a serene clutter free interior. It has wonderful views, with ample light and cross-ventilation achieved through double and triple height spaces.

The sloping roof exposed RCC ceilings and white painted walls create a sense of expanse and calm. The stone floor & hand painted murals add to the rustic charm.
The fenestrations in the house form a frame to enjoy the outdoors – coastal landscape, sea view, mountain with lush green vegetation.

The lower levels house the entry, bedrooms and pool deck, while the main living space is at a level higher to enjoy the sea view. The deep balcony connected to the living-dining space functions as a semi-open lounge space. A small mezzanine space with a terrace overlooks the lower levels and becomes a cosy den for reading or meditation. The terrace captures views of the adjacent flora and fauna and a panoramic view of the ocean.
