Nepal School Project

Competition

8000 sqft

2025

In rural Nepal, where community facilities are sometimes limited, schools are more than just places of learning. They can become vital hubs of community life: spaces for retreat during disasters, platforms for government and NGO outreach, and centres for adult education, vocational training, health programs, and social gatherings.

The competition was to design a school in rural area in Nepal which is low-cost, can be built with locally available materials in different site conditions and zones.

The design prioritises simplicity and modularity to allow replication across diverse rural settings. Instead of offering a rigid template, it provides a flexible framework that encourages local adaptation. Each school can evolve with its community, cultivating a sense of identity, ownership, and pride amongst users.
