This apartment building was for a local trust in Jamnagar. Situated on a tight corner plot, the building consists of four apartments in the building, two per floor. and a one room studio apartment on the terrace level.
A society office is located on the ground floor, the rest of the area is paved and apart from parking it can be used by the residents as a safe and shaded play area for children, gathering of senior residents, celebrating festivals etc.
Care was taken to ensure natural light and cross-ventilation in all the rooms, along with a balcony on the front side. The slats on the facade tracked the sun’s movement around the building with changing shadows throughout the year.
The terrace functions as a nice sunny space during winter. The pergola on the terrace plays a dual purpose – this is where the swing, a feature of all Gujarati houses, is placed while also becoming a marker of the building in this residential landscape. Within the tight plot, the ground space and terrace provide for a gathering space for the residents.
