This 100+ year old house was unoccupied and in a state of neglect when purchased. It was carefully restored and completely remodeled to suit the clients’ (an NRI Doctor couple with one daughter) needs.
The site is a narrow strip of land sloping towards fields in the rear. A courtyard was created within the existing structure to light up the interior of the long, narrow house.
The 2’ thick internal walls were carefully punctured while reshaping the spaces within the house. The study, at the rear, built over an extant pigsty, overlooks the swimming pool and the fields beyond.
The front porch, expanded to create a generous entrance, becomes an extension of the living room. The plaster from the wall was removed and the Laterite was carefully restored by craftsmen to its old glory.
